1. Who We Are
ZATO is a personal car management application that helps you track expenses, manage service reminders, and communicate with other drivers. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data with transparency.
2. What We Collect
We collect the information necessary to provide our services:
- Account Information: Your name and email address, provided when you sign in with Google.
- Vehicle Data: Make, model, year, license plate, fuel type, color, and odometer readings you enter.
- Financial Data: Expense records (amounts, dates, categories) you log manually.
- Reminder Dates: Service expiry dates (ITP, insurance, vignette) you enter.
- Preferences: Currency, distance unit, language, timezone, and privacy settings (such as anonymous chat mode).
- Messages: Chat messages exchanged with other drivers through the app.
- Moderation Data: If you submit a report about another user, we store the reason and any notes you provide. If your account receives reports, we store a strike count and any active chat restriction.
- Analytics: We collect anonymised usage data (screen views, session duration, app opens, device model, OS version) through Firebase Analytics (Google) to understand how the app is used and improve it. This data does not identify you personally.
3. What We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit:
- Your device's GPS location or real-time position
- Your contacts, call history, or SMS messages
- Browsing history or behaviour outside the app
- Biometric data of any kind
- The content of your expenses or messages for advertising purposes
4. How We Use Your Data
Your data is used to operate and improve the app:
- Displaying your cars, expenses, and reminders within your account
- Sending push notifications for service reminders you have configured
- Enabling other ZATO users to find and contact you by licence plate (only when you enable the 'Allow Contact' setting on a vehicle)
- Matching chat messages between drivers
- Enforcing community standards — reports submitted by users are reviewed to maintain a safe environment
- Understanding aggregate usage patterns through anonymised analytics to improve the app
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. The only information visible to other ZATO users is your car's licence plate — and only when you have explicitly enabled the 'Allow Contact' option on that vehicle. If you enable anonymous chat mode, your name and avatar are hidden from other users. We use the following third-party services to operate the app:
- Supabase: backend database and authentication provider
- Google Firebase (Analytics & Messaging): anonymised usage analytics and push notifications
- RevenueCat: subscription management
Each provider processes your data under their own privacy terms and our data processing agreements.
6. Data Security
We take data security seriously. Your data is stored in a secured cloud database with row-level security policies ensuring each user can only access their own records. All data in transit is encrypted using TLS.
7. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will remove your account and all associated data within 30 days. To request deletion, contact us at hello@getzato.com.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict processing of your data
- Opt out of analytics data collection (by disabling analytics in your device settings)

9. Age Restriction
ZATO is intended for users aged 18 and over. The app involves vehicle management and driver-to-driver communication, which requires the user to be of legal driving age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has registered, please contact us immediately at hello@getzato.com.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes through the app or via email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
